Day 1 - Brisbane to Kingaroy
Kingaroy - also known as the Peanut Capital of Australia - is named after the aboriginal word for "red ant". It is situated approx. 200 km northwest of Brisbane . For a sense of the pastoral and agricultural history of Kingaroy we will visit the Heritage Museum . The regions offers much more than peanuts. We will visit the some of the beautiful wineries in the area before setting up camp.
Day 2 - Kingaroy to the Bunya Mountains
Our journey today will take us to the well known Kingaroy Cheese Factory, before we will continue to one of Queensland 's oldest continually occupied homesteads. It was built in 1846 and is now heritage listed. On a guided tour the owners will show us the homestead with its outer buildings including a blacksmiths shop and stables. After a quick bite to eat we will continue our journey with a steep drive up to the Bunya Mountains . We will set up a bush camp with a fire for the night
Day 3 - Bunya Mountains
The Bunya Mountains is Queensland second oldest National park and a true paradise for nature lovers and bushwalkers. They are a majestic offshoot of the Great Dividing Range overlooking the valley of the South Burnett. After breakfast we will enjoy a beautiful bushwalk through this ancient conifer rain forest and see some of the local residents: rosellas, king parrots, possums, koalas, wallabies and echidnas just to name a few. After lunch we start our journey home.
